MAGNUS copter
About
The Magnus effect is a phenomenon that occurs when a fluid (liquid or gas) flows around a rotating object.
The Magnus effect
How does it work?
Details
On one side of the object where the direction of flow is the same as the direction of rotation, the pressure is higher. On the other side, where the directions are opposite, the pressure is lower. This difference in pressure creates a force that pushes on the object, causing it to move.
Discovery & application
The Magnus effect was first observed by Heinrich Magnus in 1853, and it has since been used in various applications, such as in sports equipment, as well as in aerodynamics.
The main idea behind the effect is that the rotation of the object creates a circular motion in the fluid, which causes it to move in a different direction around the object. This causes a pressure difference between the two sides of the object, creating a force that acts on it.
